Thoughts on quitting

Without naming names, today I saw another long time Steemian hang the shoes, so to speak. It made me think about this whole idea, this notion of "quitting the game", and even though I can't say I don't understand what it means, I'm also beginning to see it from a different angle.

Let's be honest about one thing, very few people talk about quitting instagram, facebook or twitter. I mean, they do quit, don't get me wrong, but for the most part it does not seem to be such a significant event. I for one quit facebook some years ago now, and even though I did it for ideological reasons, I did not feel like I was forsaking opportunities, and I think that is why this conversation is so different here.

You see, when people leave this blockchain they are implicitly saying, they've chosen to remove themselves from all risks. It's almost as if we were talking about a financial divorce of sorts. Of course, someone exiting Steem could be making the right choice for themselves, no doubt, but what I'm interested on, at least at this moment, is the difficult choice of quitting opportunities, of abandoning potential.

Anyone who has lived long enough would tell you, that we mustn't pull all eggs in one basket. Truly nobody knows what will happen with any aspect in our lives. Who knows if crypto will actually make it? We can make educated decisions, we can consider the worse possible outcome and contrast it to the best or simply sub optimal, and if we are comfortable with all possibilities, we can continue the walk.

So I guess the quitting here, must represent something a bit more profound or at least more complex. "I've considered all outcomes, all possibilities and I'm satisfied with none" - Is this a strawman position? I don't discard the possibility of me being unfair, but please don't misinterpret me, I'm not passing judgment, I'm simply attempting to paint the picture.

I will say this, if you leave I wish you well. And, I hope for the sake of everyone, the ones who will remain and continue to build and the ones who could not take it anymore, or simply saw themselves ready to turn the page, that all of us find the only thing that is actually worth a damn in this life; Peace of mind.
