Brighton Star Neal Maupay respond to the ugly incident which saw Matteo Guendozi fall out of favour at Arsenal according to soccerhub

Speaking after his star turn against Newcastle on Sunday, in which Maupay scored twice and set up another in a 3-0 victory, he thanked Brighton and the Premier League – who set up an online reporting system in June – and admits the abuse deeply affected him.

“The support I receoved from my club, from the Premier League, has been amazing to me,” Maupay said.

“I can understand sometimes that the fans could be upset, towards players, towards teams.

“And sometimes people just cross the line. They need to realise it is just football. We are just trying to give some people happiness, trying to give the best of the game.

“You can say certain things but on social media people are free to say whatever they want, undercover because sometimes there are accounts where you don’t know who it is behind them.

“It’s the same with racism, some players had problems as well.

“It is really good to be in a league that looks after the players and will not tolerate any sort of abuse online. It is good to know they have our backs as players.”

Maupay is likely to be rested for Brighton’s Carabao Cup match against Preston North End on Wednesday night with Graham Potter expected to start Alireza Jahanbakhsh in attack
