He was an indispensable player for Chelsea in the 13 years he spent at the club, and he was one of the main reasons that lead to their golden era, winning an incredible 3 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, the Champions League, the Europa League and 2 League Cups.
He was also a loyal player to his club (although some changed their opinion a little bit when he went to Man.City on loan for a season after signing for New York City FC), and was also a very well trusted & respected player in The Blues's dressing room along with the fellow club legend John Terry.
After retireing, Lampard opted for a career in media as a football pundit and he will be a part of BBC's broadcasting team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and although he's currently enjoying punditry he claims that he still has an ambition of managing his former club.
โI have thought about coaching and I have been working at Chelsea with the academy all year, around my media stuff," Lampard exclusively told Goal during the BBC Media Day.
"I am enjoying the media and itโs been great for me to finish, have some different time to work on my coaching, but also have breaks with the family, plus work in the media. That allows me to keep one foot in the game, so Iโve got my eye on both.
โChelsea, of course, is like a dream job that will be there one day. But that is not always the route that it takes, so it might take me to go somewhere else before I can ever do that. We will see, but I certainly have ambitions to do it.
โHow could I not take it if Chelsea offered me the job? Chelsea are my club and I feel like I have a lot to offer. But thatโs obviously for other people to decide, for important people, if and when I am ready to do that."
It is widely expected that the Chelsea managerial role will be vacant soon, with Antonio Conte expected to leave the Blue's hot seat in the incoming days, but it may well be a step too far for Lampard at the moment, as he has no experience at all in management.
He's been linked with managerial jobs in The Championship in recent times, with clubs like Derby County and Ispwich Town showing an interest in the 39-year-old, which seems to be more realistic than taking over the Blues straight away.
