Ultimate Football Comeback? Champions League - Barcelona: 6 Paris St Germain: 5

in #soccer7 years ago (edited)

Barcelona have just overturned a 4-0 defeat in the first leg in Paris to somehow progress to the Champions League quarter final for the 10th year in a row!

In a remarkable game, Barcelona managed to score 6 goals, including 3 in the final minutes of the match.

They started well, and ended the first half 2 goals up, with Luiz Suarez opening the scoring after only 5 minutes, and an own goal from Kurzawa on 42 minutes.

PSG looked very bad, sloppy in defence and unable to keep possession, which was a complete contrast to how well they played 2 weeks ago. After 5 minutes of the second half, Neymar converted a penalty to give the Barcelona fans real beleif, and the Camp Nou was rocking.

It all looked after when Barcelona's defence switched off following a long ball which was knocked down by Kurzawa to Edison Cavani, who gleefully slammed a powerful shot past the Barcelona goalkeeper, and wheeled away in celebration. Surely it was job done - the away goals rule meaning that Barcelona would have to score 3 more times!

The stadium was suddenly silenced, as fans realised the seemingly insurmountable task ahead of them.

Luckily they were playing a French team who will go down as the one of the biggest footballing bottle-jobs ever! It looked incredibly difficult for PSG not to progress, but somehow they managed it with only minutes left to play.

On 88 minutes Neymar curled a fantastic freekick into the top corner, then added a calm penalty just 3 minutes later when Luiz Suarez was fouled following a hopeful long ball over the top from Messi. Out of nowhere , its 5-5, but surely PSG could hang on for a couple more minutes of added time?

Not so - they really screwed the pooch, as with the last kick of the game substitute Segio Roberto tapped in from Neymar's lofted ball. The Barca players, manager and fans went absolutely mad, while their Parisian counterparts looked like someone had ripped out their insides!

This has to go down as the greatest comeback in Champions League history. Sure, there were some questionable referreeing decisions, and Barca players were diving all over the place, but when it counted, they were clinical. PSG couldnt handle the pressure, will struggle to ever live this humiliation down, somehow snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I would love to have known the odds on this game - I read somewhere that bookmakers stood to lose 7 figures if BArca won (and presumably even more after PSG scored a precious away goal to make it 3-1 and seemingly game over!)
