The inaugural season of the UEFA Nations League begins 2018-09-06 and includes all 55 members of the Union of European Football Association (UEFA). The tournament consists of 4 leagues (A,B,C,D) that each contain 4 groups of teams which are seeded based on their UEFA ranking. Groups will feature two games between each team. Nations that win their group in League A qualify for the Nations League Finals. Nations that win their group in leagues B, C, & D will be promoted to the league above while nations that finish last in their group from leagues A, B, & C will be relegated to the league below (except for League C Group 1 3rd place playoff.) The final standings will determine seeding for UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying.

The winner of each group will be promoted to League A and the last place finisher will be demoted to League C. Slovakia, Russia, Austria, and Wales are the top seeded teams for each group. Russia is the lowest FIFA world ranked team in League B but the top UEFA seed in their group. The highest FIFA ranked team is Denmark who are the lowest UEFA seed for the last group. League B will be allocated at least one Euro 2020 placement.
