Advantages & Disadvantages of VAR

VAR is the hottest topic in the footballing world at the moment. Because it has the potential to have a big impact on the beautiful game for better or worse. VAR stands for video assistant refereeing. VAR practice has started very recently and thus there are still a lot of details that need to be sorted out. Because VAR in its current form may not be the best solution. But little tweaks down the road will ensure a great solution to the controversies in a football match.
There are not many issues regarding football at the moment bar one. That one problem is bad referring decision. But until now there wasn't any way of solving this problem. Because no matter how good and focused a referee might be, human error is inevitable. So, the best way to help them is by introducing technology like VAR. It will give referees the chance to alter their bad decisions in a very short time. A single decision may seem insignificant at the moment but at the end of the season it may be the difference between a team having a good or a bad season. Liverpool's match with Tottenham on February 4, 2018 is a prime example where VAR could have changed the outcome of the match. Because two questionable penalties were awarded to Tottenham in this match which resulted in the match being a draw. If VAR was present in that match the end result should have been a lot different. At the end of the season, Liverpool may find them out of the UEFA Champions League qualifying positions and look back at this match as the match which robbed them of UEFA Champions League for the next season. So VAR is a must to give justice to the better team and it will ensure that the best team win on every occasion.

The flip side of the argument is that it compromises the feeling of intensity within a match. Moreover, most VAR decisions take too long and the fans are left in a confusing state in the meantime. So, tweaks to speed up the decision process is a must. Moreover, everyone needs to have a clear idea of how the decision making is being processed. Because without clarity none will support the decision and chaos may rise as a result. So, clear and faster VAR decision is a must. Apart from that, the footballing world needs to have a little bit of patience for the new system. Because it will take some time to make this new addition to football become an integral part of the game.
