A Magical Wildflower Carpet Ride

Come with me on a magic carpet ride! A carpet of Mojave wildflowers strewn all over the slopes of Piute Mountain.

After our radio operator duties were completed at the High Desert Trails Rally,
https://steemit.com/socalsteemit/@creationofcare/desert-trails-rally-race-photos
we headed north up the canyon towards our camp on Piute Mountain, and I took some scenes of the glorious landscape.

20180505_175930~2.jpg The Audubon Bright Star Wilderness Addition is tucked into the far side of this other mountain. I want to return and hike down to the creek some day. The golden color is from innumerable flowers spreading their petals to the springtime.

The mixture of Joshua trees and delicate blooms takes my breath away.

The views become grander as we switchback up Piute Mountain Road.

Before we know it, we are back at camp. Matt started the fire, and our hostess arrived with her children for some evening browsing.

The next morning was cool and cloudy, perfect for a desert motor tour.

20180506_092204.jpg Piñon trees and Ponderosas begin to give way to mixed woodlands with oaks as we approach the ridge.

Once the road took us back to the exposed slopes, the colorful wildflowers came on strong!

Our magic flowery carpet ride came to a close back on Jawbone Canyon Road.

20180506_102550~2.jpg As far as we know, no birds committed suicide on the many wind turbines providing the area with clean energy.

We wound back down to Hwy 14 to refeul our stomachs and our gas tank in the tiny town of Mojave, CA.

Up next: Our drive through Red Rock Canyon State Park. Stay tuned!

Looks so peaceful.

All the beautiful wildflowers! Is there a bumper crop
this year? The close up of that lupin is so divine!
The blues and purple shades, I just love this one

Thank you Love Cat for showing these wonderful
places! I sure enjoy the magical adventures
you show us!❤ 🐱

Hi there darlin @shasta!

I was very surprised by the lushness of the wildflowers here after seeing next to zero in Anza-Borrego last month. I honestly expected nothing, and the heady scent of those big lupine bushes practically knocked me out. Heheh! They are my favorite, too, I think. Blue and purple and , later peapods, oh wow.

I am so happy you are into it!!!! Thanks for being my friend 😻
