Hail from the belly of the beast!

I have never seen anything even close to this storm in my 56 years of living. It was white out conditions for HOURS at a time, almost constantly for two full days. Luckily we have a little break before the NEXT FOOT drops over the next few days. My body was giving out from shoveling for two days straight.

The photo above was the FOURTH TIME I had shoveled that amount of snow in about 18 hours. Notice the garbage can, that thing is about 4.5 feet tall! By the time I had the sidewalks shoveled there was another 2-3 inches piled up behind me. It was incredible! Our total annual snowfall is around 95 inches and this storm ALONE dumped over 60 on us in just over two days....and there is more to come...

The snow plow has piled snow over 11 feet tall at the one end of the driveway ...this is NUTS! Check out the mound of snow behind the bird feeder. This was yesterday BEFORE the plow came and took ANOTHER 26 inches of snow off the driveway. The snow as already piled over 7 feet before he plowed. I am inside and the floor is about two and a half feet above ground level. That mound of snow is now above roof level and that is only for that third of the driveway!

I can only remember 2 storms that were even close to this one. One was in the early 1980's and the other was somewhere near the early, mid 2000's. Both were brutal and intense, but they don't even come close to this. We broke the record for the worst storm in recorded history this time. Last record storm was in the late 1950's. My father, God rest his soul, said that the national guard was rolling tanks down the street because they had no snow plows that could handle that amount of snow like we do today.

The entire town shut down for over 24 hours. Folks, this just doesn't happen here in Erie, Pa. The people here don't even slow down usually in a blizzard. That's how you know if you're from here. You don't slow down on the road no matter what. I never could figure that out either. This is such a small town. Being in a hurry only shaves maybe a minute off your travel no matter how fast you drive.

But, I digress....You should have seen this storm. It was truly amazing. I couldn't believe how intense it was for so long. The last two images are slightly different angles of the back yard. The one on top is before the pile up. The last one, the one on the bottom, is from yesterday afternoon, after the bulk of this tranche of snow. That top horizontal railing is about 4.5 feet off the ground! ..Oh, and yes, there IS more coming....a lot more....
