Anatomy of the Project Giving Discord Server

in #sndboxsummercamp6 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone! I'm a member of the @projectgiving team as part of the Sndbox summer camp. Together with @maverickinvictus, we were in charge of setting up a Discord Server that will be open to everyone!

Unlike other group chats, Discord Servers are more like a community which consists of different parts. You can also compare it to a company with different teams and sub teams, and you should know where you can or cannot go.

The best part is you can organize a server and customize it in a way which will fit your community.

Now on to the parts of our discord!

Discord servers have >categories and under each >categories are #channels.

>START HERE

Each community or Discord Server has different house rules. Some may be strict but some may not even have any rules at all - but they're more likely to get spammers. This category is your place to get to know what the server is about and meet new members too.

#welcome

This is our door and where new members first arrive. This is your starting point and where other members can welcome you.

#read-rules

The server rules are simple and anyone with common sense and who knows how to respect people will be fine. Please follow these rules as misconduct may result to a warning or even a permanent ban!

#introduceyourself

In a few words, tell us something about yourself. There is a 📌pinned message in this channel as guideline on what you can write

Note: In any server, always check if there are 📌 pinned messages. Those were pinned for a reason and will guide you through the server.

>GENERAL

The general category is likely the busiest category because this is where most members hang out and topics can be about anything. Just note of the rules, more on that later.

#general

This is usually the busiest channel. Like other discord servers, this is where you can talk about anything.

#general-voice-chat

We have a voice channel that can be used for meetings or discussions that are better done by talking. This is where other listeners can chat about the topic at the voice chat

#project-giving-team-general 🔒

This is a restricted channel for the team to talk about project plans which aren't specific to their sub teams.

#project-founders 🔒

As project giving will be working with several projects, we have put up a restricted channel dedicated to the project founders. This is where the team can work closely with them.

🔊VOICE CHANNELS

For auditory people, here's a place for you. Some team or public meetings are also best done through voice.
There are 2 channels under this. One is for everyone- general-voice and the other is restricted and only accessible to the team - project-giving-voice🔒

Note: If you want to join the voice channel, ensure that your Push to Talk is set. This is found in this path - User Settings > App Settings > Voice & Video > Input Mode and select Push to Talk

>PROJECTS & PROMOTIONS

This is where you will find related topics to initiatives and where you can find everyone's favorite - post promotions!

#projects

This channel is specific to topica related to existing projects or initiatives

#initiatives-search

If you have or found a project that needs help, this is where you can tell us more about it

#inspirational-posts

You can drop a link here. You can add posts of other Steemians or communities that you think are worth checking out

#steemit-post-promotion

This is probably the favorite channel in almost every discord server. Unfortunately, some people just join a server to spam drop links to their posts without the intention of interacting with the community. Mods can easily sense who these people are so beware! ;)

>PROJECT GIVING DEVELOPMENT

Project Giving did not just come out of the blue. It has been on the works for months. Take note that this category is restricted to the Project Giving team

The channels here are restricted which includes
#project-giving-scheduling
#project-giving-initiatives-talk
#important-documents

And finally, the last category...

>PROJECT GIVING SUB TEAMS

After the initial Sndbox quest, we were re-grouped into new teams and I joined Project Giving. The channels here are also restricted to the team and is where all the planning and organizing happens.

I will not go into detail what each are as these are all private channels for the Sndbox Summer Camp.

The channels/ sub teams are
#discord-development🔒
#outreach-gamification🔒
#graphics🔒
#next-initiatives-post🔒
#collaboration-and-partnerships🔒
#videos-extra-media
#initiative-follow-up-proposal🔒
#weekly-organization🔒

As you can see, a lot of things are going on in this project. And we would like to invite you to be part of our community by clicking on the link below:
