The Way of Life An Amateur Writer [Sndbox Summer Camp Writing- Task One]

in #sndboxquest6 years ago (edited)

The newspaper pages adorn the walls of an Aceh house in Trueng Campli, Pidie District. The paper was stuck with uneven numbers of pages, back and forth, and the date of the paper was different. The owner of the house sticks to the old newspaper not to facilitate reading, but to cover the hole due to the improper installation of wooden boards, termites eaten, and because there is a wooden side that peels off. If not attached with old newspapers, the activity of the owner of the house and its contents will appear from the outside.

The condition of this stage house is sad. The inhabitants often joked that before the old newspapers were affixed, there was little wind blowing the lamps inside the house immediately went out instantly. *Batok asee mate panyot lam rumoh,* that's how they often make images. That is, if there is a dog cough, the lamps *teplok* in the house can be extinguished.

A child who was not even 10 years old glared at the old newspapers on the wall of the house with a depressed heart. He has not been so fluent in reading and hobbled to spell the news from this Medan newspaper. He read about the Gulf War, news about Saddam Hussein, and looked at the face of Iranian leader Ayatollah Khomeini.

She did not realize that the news from the taped newspaper had been cut off, and the connection was on another page. However, the little boy who is still sitting in the fourth grade of State Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MIN) did not pay any attention to it. At that time, he did not understand the importance of reading a story to the end.

After reading the old newspaper, there was a desire in her mind that one day she had to become a news writer. This made him begin to seriously pursue the field of writing, and the desire was getting thicker when he sat in junior high school.

He tries to correspond with the outside world, sends letters to overseas radio managers such as Ranesi NL Netherlands, Arab-Egyptian Radio and German radio, Deutsche Welle. The letter was sent to this radio representative's address in Jakarta. Some responded to the letter, but many did not respond at all. When a radio sends him a magazine or a book, the boy is very happy.

While sitting on the bench of Madrasah Aliyah (MA), this child has begun writing for the "Komentar Pembaca" section of Serambi Indonesia, a local newspaper in Aceh. He wrote it handwritten on HVS paper. A day, two days, three days awaited, his writing has not yet appeared in the newspaper.

A month before the status of the Military Operations Area (DOM) for Aceh was revoked, once again he sent his writings. This time he typed his writing on HVS paper using a typewriter. The result was put in a white envelope, then sent through a postal service with a stamp of 500. A week later, his article titled DOM Menyiksa Kita Semua (DOM Tortured We All) is published in the Commentary section of Readers Serambi Indonesia. At that time, he had just sat in second grade Madrasah Aliyah, at the high school level.

After the first post, the boy begins to send his writing to the local paper. His writing is published more and more frequently. He also began to get bored just writing for a letter rubric readers. He started making serious writing for the opinion rubric. Unfortunately, until he graduated from Madrasah Aliyah, none of his writings were published in the local newspaper's opinion section.

Meanwhile, he began to dare to send short stories (short stories) to the newspaper WASPADA, Medan-published newspaper that he had read as a child. Fortunately, the short story that was first sent was immediately loaded. Short story title, Old Portrait. In addition, his poetic poetry began to decorate this column of Abrakadabra Medan newspaper. It was fortunate that he forgot to shout and shout, "Boys Short Story Incoming Newspapers!"

Although his writings published in the media, the boy is always short of money pocket. His allowance is only enough to buy one Dji Sam Soe cigarette for Rp150 silver, one jackfruit and the cost of returning home. This condition makes it routinely visited the library during school break time, so the money ration fare did not come out.

In this government-owned library, he began reading the book of Short Story Writing by Arswendo Atmowiloto. The book written by Chief Editor of Tabloid Monitor presents a lot of writing tips in the form of question and answer. Writing in a style like this makes the contents of the book easy to understand. Reading this book encourages the child to study harder to write.

Graduated from Madrasah Aliyah, the boy enrolled in English as the first choice. Unfortunately, he was accepted into the Communication department he chose as a second choice. He accepted the fate gracefully. "Better than not to go to college," he muttered to himself.

At the end of 2000 or in the first semester of college, he attended the "Writing Workshop" created by Student Executive Board (BEMA) IAIN Ar Raniry. There were 15 writing participants at that time. One of the objectives of this training is to find prospective journalists and writers for Tabloid Ar Raniry Post, tabloids that have long vacuum alias no longer published. The media of this campus was about to be reissued.

Joining the campus media makes this child more serious pioneering the way as a writer. In the media, his writing skills increasingly honed. Tabloid Ar Raniry Post even took him flying to Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan in mid-August 2002 following "campus journalist training in Indonesia." His article began to be published in the column Opini newspaper Serambi Indonesia.

The child is never satisfied to learn to write. He always felt that his writing skills were lacking and needed a lot of guidance from other writers. Once, while living in Jakarta in 2004, he saw a poster attached to a bus stop in Depok. "Journalistic Days" as soon as the inscription reads in the poster. To participate in this journalistic training, participants must pay. Because of insufficient money, this child only follows three out of four training days. He was glad that the training was guided by senior writer Amarzan Loebis, Tariq Hadad and presenter Najwa Shihab.

In that same year, the Institute of Information Flow Studies (ISAI) held a training for Aceh activists, again this child enrolled himself as a participant. The training that was held at Wisma Tempo Sinargalih (WTS) presented Stanley, Hasudungan and national media journalist. In addition to writing techniques, from training made at the training site owned by TEMPO Magazine, the boy learned a lot about writing tips and media management techniques.

In 2006, Southeast Asian Center for E-Media (SEACEM), an institution in Malaysia held e-Media Training at Malaysiakini.com office. The boy who is managing a website is invited there. In addition to the introduction of the WordPress platform, Blogger, and Online Business, the training also introduces CMS Websitebaker to participants from ASEAN countries. From there, the boy learns about the world of websites and strives to become a web developer.

He has been studying Journalism Training for Journalist Aceh in LPDS Jakarta (2006), Peace Journalism training by KIPPAS Medan in Berastagi (2007), Training of Ethics Code of LPDS Journalists and Norwegian Embassy (2009), to Course of Journalism by Literature PANTAU (2011).

Through these trainings, this child learns to realize his childhood desire to become a writer. He was in a state of consciousness when deciding to pursue the world of writing as a way of life. Not many children his age at that time saw writing as a fun activity.

The child's name is Taufik Al Mubarak. He is present at Steemit not solely pursuing rewards, but rather creating his dream of publishing a book, a long-delayed dream. []
