The Puff Adder Fangs (Bitis arietans)
The Puff Adder, One of South Africa's Deadly Dozen snakes, belongs to the Viper Family Viperidae.
This family has the snakes with the longest fangs which are described as Hinge-Front Fanged. They grow so long that they fold up against the roof of the snakes mouth when not in use.
When striking, the snakes moves them forward to stab the prey or victim.
Because they are so long, the snake can inject large quantities of Venom deep into the prey causing death in a short time.
These snakes are mainly ambush hunters and can strike with great speed and when defending itself with great force that the fangs can penetrate soft leather.
