Most species of snakes found in South Africa are indeed harmless to man. They either have no venom at all or have a mild venom that does not cause much harm to man.
An example of a mildly venomous snake is the Herald Snake pictured above. Also called the Red-Lipped Herald Snake as some look as if the have put red lipstick on. As a threat display they flatten their black heads, bulging out their cheeks and arch their necks. They strike readily. Although I have caught 100s of these snakes, I've never been bitten by one.
Those bitten get a throbbing headache.

I know one Herpetologist who happens to be the closest friend of my nephew. I happen to gather a lot of information on different species of snakes. How many snakes he's caught so far and their names and the region those snakes are found and also the way those snakes were caught. But, I never heard the name before. i really need to google it out.

wow that is a beautiful creature to behold!

They are present in all Africa, except in the north and in the north, their habitat is in forests and humid and mountainous savannas...

that's interesting..from their shape it is looking that the snake is very harmful but according to this information it is harmless....

Many harmless snakes show a very threatening threat display. And it works! Harmless snakes can chase away many animals that could cause harm to them - even man.

i fear any kind of snakes, even the harmless kind

Whenever I see snakes, I creep out.

nothing frightens me more than this creature ...i gets goosebumps even at the thought of them

"Those bitten get a throbbing headache " Still harmful for me.
