Over indulged a little this Christmas? feeling a little bloated with little energy? Then this may be the boost you need to get you on track for those New Year's resolutions you will be making soon.....

What is a DeTox

In laymans terms a detox is a process in which a person makes lifestyle changes to clear their body of toxins. Toxins in this case  are referring to the alcohol and rich foods most of us over consume over the festive period and now is the time to cleanse the body of those  additional toxins.

For this recipe I have chosen vegetables with only 1 fruit to add a little sweetness. Why Vegetables? the ones that I have chosen are particularly kind to your liver, helping to flush out those toxins lurking within. Each vegetable brings with it an abundance of antioxidents, vitamins and are rich in fibre and iron - all good for the digestive track.

Cucumber - these little green vegetables are great on many levels - besides keeping you hydrated, they are a great source to flush out toxins, lavish you with vitamins. Known for their anti-diabetic,  lipid-lowering and antioxidant activity, cucumbers have a detoxifying,  cleansing effect on the body.

Green Tea - It is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that have powerful effects on the body. It has been shown through various studies that Green tea can help to boost the metabolic rate and increase fat burning in the short term; also  green tea can leads to increased weight loss. It is  particularly effective at reducing the dangerous abdominal fat. Great for ridding yourself of those extra pounds gained over the festive period - that last mince pie effect!

Chia Seeds -  Chia seeds will extend the feeling of  fullness and  will give you a steady release of energy over the course of the day, thus helping you consume fewer calories, all while promoting healthier digestion and balancing the bacteria in your gut. An added bonus of Chia seeds is their  ability to reverse inflammation, lower blood pressure, reverse oxidative stress, and help your body absorb vitamins. All good news post-Christmas.

Thanks Amy - it was to kick start me again! - Have a great New Year too :)

Sorry I missed this in its first payout period! This looks like a great smoothie. Arugula has such great, zippy flavor. It grows pretty well all through the winter, here, too, except for the worst of the cold. Happy New Year! I hope 2017 is a great year for you!

thank you - hope your 2017 is a great one too. Hope your 'green garden' is producing some great new greens - look forward to your posts . :)

Thanks! We've got a few inches of fresh snow and temperatures are headed down to 10F (-12C). But I bet there will still be some weeds worth eating 2 weeks from now. They bounce back so fast!
