Reminding of Death

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah (603 - 681) said, "The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad PBUH) visited the grave of his mother and wept, and caused those around him to weep. He said: '... visit the graves, for they will remind you of death.'" (HR. An Nasa'i).

An elderly man was walking with a cane at the tomb of Sunan Ampel, Surabaya, Indonesia, a few days ago. Sunan Ampel (1401 - 1481) is one of nine guardians who spread Islam in Indonesia, especially in Java.

In Indonesia, there is a pilgrimage tradition that begins before the month of Ramadan and culminates in Eid Al-Fitr or Victory Day after fasting for a whole month.

Wrinkles on his face showed him already tired after traveling away from his hometown until arrived at the grave of sunan. However, on that hot day, it did not discourage him to keep worshiping and fasting.

The old man came to recite the Qur'an, prayed for sunan and prayed for himself. He is ready to meet God.
