Materialism versus Idealism

Chatuchak 20.jpg

In my Buddhist readings today I came across a passage where the discussion was about materialism and idealism being opposites. When I read this passage I at first thought that this had to be a mistake and that the two terms were not opposites. But as I really began to think about the two terms, I came to understand that they are in fact opposites.

Materialism is based on the belief that there is a limited amount of resources and you must acquire as many of those resources as possible in order to have a successful life. It is an approach to life that is based on limits, conflict, and by its nature it consistently put you in a position where you will fight with others.

Idealism is the belief that there is always enough for everyone and that things are in fact be perfect.Idealism challenges us to latch onto this belief and allow it to shape our thoughts and actions based on it. if you buy into the belief of idealism, there is no need to struggle or compete for resources. For this reason there is no need to take a materialistic approach.

We should all strive to put our thoughts and actions around Idealism because it will definitely create a better world for all of us.

Be blessed and have a wonderful day!
