Winter Wonderland Turned Into Slush Festival

in #slush6 years ago (edited)

There is certainly no need for a gym membership when the weather is like this. First I had to move a mountain of wet snow from the patio. Why? I'll show you.

This was hanging above the patio. When the roof is wet, the snow keeps sliding forward slowly like a glacier.

It fell and this resulted.

Back to shoveling.

That bank of snow had to be moved 1-2 meters away from the windows. If a larger amount comes down, chunks of ice may hit the windows. Also, it's not good for the walls or the footings to be in contact with snow.

I went to run some errands. Turns out there had been a car crash in a busy intersection just minutes before I drove through it. It's very slippery now. There is slush and wet ice on the roads and streets.

There were two ambulances at the scene at this stage. The speed limit is 60 km/h.

That debris on the road is from the accident.

Soon a fire engine arrived followed by another one.

One of the cars involved. I think there were two. That one will most likely be a total loss. It doesn't take much as modern cars are full of parts and systems very expensive to repair. The mere assessment of the damage will easily cost hundreds of euros.

The police were the last authorities to arrive at the scene. This happened maybe 15-20 minutes after the crash.

When I got home, my car almost got stuck in our driveway.

I had to remove about 10-15 cm of slush.

Now it's drivable!
