SHOP AND DROP RPG: HOW DO YOU GET SPONSORED FOR A CRYPTOCOIN PROJECT?

INTRO

@stellabelle asked me to write a post about how I was able to get PinkCoin to sponsor
the Shop & Drop RPG. I will tell you a bit more so you can understand the context.

I have been playing Dungeons And Dragons (DND) for the past 8 months and have really enjoyed games played
where 90% of the game is in your mind. I feel like this style of gaming opens my creative
process up so much more than just writing poetry or making illustrations.

I really wanted to try DND after seeing the boys from Stranger Things play. I didn't understand how the game blended the simplicity of a mind game with the complexity of stories.

After I doing some research, I told the Slothicorn community that an RPG played in a Steemit post could be a game that Slothicorn artists could contribute to. Some people didn't understand what it would look like to run an RPG on Steemit so I created Slothy's Arcade Adventure as a demo.

When I prepared for the demo I made sure to do the following:

  • Research articles on what makes a good DM
  • Have a map drawn of the world you will have your players go through
  • Find an artist to work with you on critical assets

RESEARCH

From my research I learned that it is important to not reinvent the wheel. There are plenty of old stories that just work.

Take for example the middle class accountant who launders money for a Mexican drug cartel. His business partner steels millions of dollars and is murdered along with his family. The accountant saves himself and his family by proposing a way to launder 8 million dollars at Ozark lake. The show is called Ozark and it stars Jason Bateman and it is an excellent binge watch. The story is beautiful because you are left with a question that isn't answered until the end of the show. When it is answered the writers leave you with more questions.

The research also said to reuse stories and mix them with other stories until the story is my own.

MAP

The map I drew was pretty simple and I didn't want it to be too complex for a demonstration. It had 5 arcade machines, a fortune teller machine, a treasure chest, and a bathroom. There was an area outside the building that a smart player discovered to find the rear entrance. Walking in through the back allowed him to find the treasure chest without fighting.

ARTIST

With the map in place I knew excactly what assets to draw and I had the entire game ready to go in 2-3 hours. All the game needed was a decent opening story, a map, events in the map, and artwork to make the story real. @alexandravart asked if she could help and I sent her images of all the monsters I quickly drew. She redid my drawings and made them look like video game monsters from the 80s. Her ability to turn around and send me art even after the game started really impressed me and that experience led me to choose her for the assets in the Stop & Drop RPG (S&D).

SPONSORS FOR THE NEXT RPG

I wanted S&D to have more rooms, more monsters, and a more complex narrative. I also wanted to have a cryptocoin sponsor a prize for people who play. I had a friend who asked me to help with cryptopuzzles and it turned out they were part of the Pinkcoin team. I asked if Pinkcoin would be interested in sponsoring my next RPG. They agreed and asked to send a budget. I thought about how much time I put in to run the demo (two 12 hour periods over a weekend) and how much time my artists took and sent out numbers for the prize pool, charity to donate pinkcoin to, and compensation for myself and my artist.

They approved the first draft of the budget!

At was at this moment I realized being a maximalist is really damaging to the coin you support and the communities you are rejecting. We all enjoy a great deal of freedom with cryptocoins and it makes sense that we should be doing projects to leverage the best of each community. The S&D RPG is an excellent example of combining the Steemit, Slothicorn, and Pinkcoin communities together.

All three communities are doing great innovative work and it makes sense to multiply these efforts.

PASSION

On a higher level, what project could you start that another cryptocurrency group (there are 100s) would find valuable? Everything goes back to what @alexandravart said in this video. You need to find something that you loose yourself doing. Something that you could pour hours into and feel good about. This search is your compass and it will guide you to what you enjoy making and what others will appreciate.

awesome :)

I quite like @happyme's Zombie Survival game, and just signed up for @daclawboyz Ork Hulk game, where you play as an Orc in a turn-based salvage and combat mission :)

They're both based on Steem posts, and seem really interesting experiments.

Being a member of a community project myself (@steemmakers), it's done a lot for getting me hooked on the platform, and getting me interested in contributing to other projects too if I can :)

Can't wait to play the RPG !

Thanks dude, you're the best!

what a technology!

Very helpful information .thanks.
