ART EXPLOSION WEEK 33: Theme SURREAL - KILLING TIME -

in #slothicorn6 years ago

Surrealism has always seemed impressive to me, there are so many possibilities within this style, it allows you to be free, to create what your mind and your subconscious show you, as you advance in your creation, new ideas are emerging and many have a place in the surreal drawing that you want to create.
Surrealism is freedom, it is doing what you want and what you dream and the more fantastic and incredible, the more attractive it will be.

This is my entry to the ART EXPLOSION WEEK contest Hosted by @juliakponsford.

This week's theme is:

Surreal

Speaking a bit about Surrealism.

Surrealism is an artistic movement that emerged in France from Dadaism, in the decade of the 1920s, around the personality of the poet André Breton.

Surrealism took from dadaism some techniques of photography and cinematography as well as the manufacture of objects. They extended the principle of collage (the "found object") to the assembly of incongruent objects, as in the visible poems of Max Ernst. The latter invented frottage (drawings composed by the rubbing of rough surfaces against paper or canvas) and applied it in great works such as Natural History, painted in Paris in 1926.

The surrealist word was used for the first time by Apollinaire in 1917. From then on, it became a term frequently used by André Breton and the collaborators of the Literatura magazine. At first it was a fundamentally literary matter, as Futurism had been. Surrealist painting appears on the scene from the 1925 exhibition in the Pierre Gallery, with artists such as Arp, Max Ernst, Man Ray, Klee, Girgio de Chirico, Miró or Pablo Picasso, to which Dalí and Magritte would be added.

Surrealism proposes a theory of the unconscious and the irrational as means to change life, society, art and man through revolution. It is not a movement with unity of style, but a series of investigations of individual artists, each with its own style.
The movement has as its theoretical basis the interpretation of Freud's dreams, which implies a rejection of traditional culture based on the power of reason; defends the revolution and engages with activist and leftist movements, wants to become the seed of the development of Dadaism in terms of constructive criticism of traditional art, breaks with social conventions and incorporates the experimentation of the methods of psychoanalysis in literature and painting; we see it in the automatic writing and the deadly corpses.

I like this becauseThey extended the principle of collage (the "found object") I used color and shape because there was a lot of thinking that went in to the shape of everything and how it would work well together.

hahaha nice comment! :) thank yu!

You've got fantastic pencil technique and the image itself is quite surreal and makes you question what's going on . I relate with what you say about how surrealism is about potential and being free. Great job on this one. It's a perfect execution of the theme.

Hello, thank you very much, good that you relate to what I think and that you have enjoyed the draw.

This is really wonderful and truly surreal. I love your use of shading and the clock is such a great nod to the surreal master himself. Wonderful.

Thank you very much
