#1 San Miguel de Guadalupe, The history of slavery in America

in #slavery6 years ago

The new world was discovered by Christopher Columbus expedition, in 1492.

The town of San Miguel de Guadalupe was founded by Spanish settlers in 1526, and besides about 600 settlers, they brought with them about 100 African slaves and enslaved native Americans, thereby establishing slavery on the American mainland only 34 years after its discovery.

The exact site of the colony is not known, but it would have been in what is currently Florida.

The founding of the colony did not do good, and during the first 3 months, 2/3's of them died.

Also during this period, the slaves revolted and won. They escaped, and afterwards lived with the Guale tribe, of which the enslaved native Americans where also members.
