AFF Level 3 - My business partner learning to skydive

My business partner/friend/fund manager learning to skydive, this is his 3rd jump and time for the instructors to let go of him in freefall.

I took him to Skydive Headcorn in Kent, England.

A few other Drop zones that we contacted failed to return voicemails and call us back when promised, so Headcorn won the business!

For any non skydivers reading, AFF stands for 'Accelerated Freefall'. It means you can do your FIRST EVER SKYDIVE on your own, not attached to an instructor.

Steve had NOT done a Tandem skydive before. This 8 jump course means he can jump on his own in any country in the world without an instructor in the sky with him (provided he passes the course).

Each jump is a Level, and he has to perform certain drills on each jump to show altitude awareness, safety, stability, control and a good deployment etc.

This jump is his 3rd skydive, so Level 3 as he passed the first two levels the day before.

I was lucky enough to get on the same load as him, so I could film him exiting the plane before jumping myself.

Here he is in the door doing his 'hotel checks' with his two instructors before they all exit the plane together.

"Check in, Check out, Skydive!"

I give them around 8 seconds separation then I exit the plane myself.

Steve was lucky to have these visuals on his 3rd ever skydive.

The skydive instructors letting go of him to check his body position and stability in freefall, he nailed it!

He passed this AFF Level 3, and his next jump will be AFF Level 4, and for this he will only have one instructor on the skydive with him.

He will have to practice 90 degree turns left and right unassisted and then pull himself again at 5,500ft while remaining stable. He's got this!

Anyone thinking of sky diving, I would have to suggest forgetting about a Tandem jump all together.

AFF is the way to go, YOU get to fly the canopy down (assisted by a radio in your helmet), YOU get to deploy your parachute, and it is extremely rewarding. Tandems may be fun, but AFF is on another level, its more fun and you get the fear factor, which I personally LOVE!
