It is with great excitement that I write to share with you my experience at the #steemgigs weekly talk show hosted by my big brother @surpassinggoogle.

Yesterday happened to be the very first time I was attending the show after missing it several times unintentionally. It was a time of my life I would never forget in a hurry after being treated like a celebrity. Oh yes, I had the treat of my life there.

On steemgigs talk show, you feel among. Everyone in attendance were so loving and had a sense of family in them. We talked and chatted like we had known each other for ages. It was really a wonderful experience and if you have been missing it, then you have been missing the time of your life.

The talk show started at about 17:00 GMT but I entered the talk show at about 17:15 and at the time, big brother @surpassinggoogle had already started but hadn’t gone a long way so I wasn’t late to the party.

The subject of discussion was on voting and the question which arose from the topic was IS A VOTE FREE?.

@surpasinggoogle started by saying that this was a very tiny question that defines your success on steemit and when you are able to ask and answer this question yourself, then you will be able to understand the voting behaviour of many people and get to learn how to win their votes.

After explaining what he meant by asking if a vote was free, he went ahead to talk about himself by using himself as a case study to further buttress his point on the voting behaviour of many people from minnows to whales.

He talked about people’s interest in curation rewards as a voting behaviours and also talked about those who were just interested in upvoting quality contents as a means of encouraging adding values to minnows on the platform, these set of people don’t care about curation rewards and this is the category @surpassinggoogle said he belonged to which I strongly agree with.

He said that as a minnow, he started out by curating quality contents and didn’t care much about the person behind the content but as time went on, he got more interested in the person behind the content than the content itself and that also shaped his voting behaviour.

He said is isn’t so much about morals and believe that there is good in every bad which has made him try to see the good in everyone and try to understand people better. He gave example using spammers and the reason he doesn’t flag them but tries to understand why the person spams. In this light, he made an illustration using himself as a person who would see poop and when others are disgusted and running away from it, he would move closer to it and try to decipher what food made the poop and the person from whom it came from. It sounded weird but that was a very good example to further explain his personality to us.

Well, I got to learn a new thing during the show which I never knew. He said that in the past, people had the ability to upvote 40 posts per day before their voting power gets to 80% but an update changed it to 10 posts per day which made it easier to curate a whole lot more number of persons back then than it is today.

@surpassinggoogle said that during curation, he looks beyond a lot of things even reputation. He said he believes in the timeliness of the upvotes as upvotes are better given just when they are needed and important. He said that a one line post which says that there would be an earth quake on 5mins and saves the life of many is better than a story of 2000 words telling us about the earth quake when it had already happened, this was in a bid to tell us how timeliness and value of information matters a lot when he is curating and also told us that he isn’t alone in this as this also shapes the voting behaviours of so many others on the platform.

He went on to say that he started upvoting comments because he felt the need to spread the votes and reach a larger number of individuals since every vote has a price which is the voting power and knowing when and how to use it mattered a lot.

He went further to tell us that some people won’t upvote your post simply because they want you to grow. Imaging writing trash and expecting an upvote. When you get an upvote for the trash you have written, growth becomes difficult because you get very comfortable writing trash but when you don’t get upvoted, it makes you want to do better next time which breeds growth and by the time you have become better, the upvotes starts coming in and so admonished us never to give up when we don’t see the upvotes coming in and just try to put in more effort.

Towards the end of the show which lasted for an hour plus, he talked about his health and the various projects he has going on in the platform.

@snooks had the opportunity of giving us a short speech about her progress on steemit and soon afterwards, a tag was chosen to mark the end of the show and guess what? @sistem was chosen as the tag. I was so wowed because I never expected it. A code word was also given which was The system you seek is the system next to you.

Big brother @surpassinggoogle asked some of the members to dedicate a song to me as it was my first time on the show and @snooks did a good job with her song before leaving for the house party she had to attend next door.

@uche-nna also gave a powerful rendition of a song cover in dedication to me. I felt so special and was really happy I attended the show.

Other participants in attendance were @yanzel4lyf, @beany-inhinyero, @anyansiemmanuel, @julietisrael, @oredebby, @purpledaisy57, @geyzee, @autofreak, @wakkylyon, @sn0wwhite, @phantum04, @jeline, @juwel, @sweetcha, @teeflow, @long8888, @markjason, @yennarido, @gnomicrules, and @maverickinvictus.

This is a show I would implore everyone to attend and I bet you wouldn’t regret you did.
