I concur @beanz, there needs to be a way to remove automation all together therefore freeing up the reward pool to a more organic and diversified base and the blockchain will be that much more impervious to spam by bots as well.
One way to implement this through the blockchain would be to give new accounts a limit of certain amounts of post, lets say 5, to validate that they are in fact a real person and unique to the system. This can be done by expressing to new users that in order to post past the limit they have to be verified by a certain group of people who in turn are voted on by the community that would need to validate each and every new user past the limit, in turn incentivizing said validation process will create the supply for these users. These users should be reviewed periodically for their veracity in validating accounts and they should be the same users which would deal with accounts that get flagged as bots or rogue accounts that sell out to bots or spammers after validating, therefore removing their posting privileges. Removing the posting key from the platform will squash curation trails then and there, therefore freeing blockchain data and bandwidth. Sockpuppet accounts can still float around but they will be restricted to only so many posts, and allowing voting and curating only past a certain reputation will effectively diminish any interactions they could have. The review team could be compromised by an ever growing number of users and should be as the community continues to grow and each user should be able to vote on these people just like witnesses but with votes constantly regenerating every month or so. They should also have a certain reputation to be eligible for nomination should they seek that position. I think something like this needs to be explored and will lead only to more resilience for the community against spam and bots and interactions will be almost guaranteed to be between human beings and not code.
