A rare gem…

Afternoon everyone ….

There are thousands and thousands of different silver rounds that have been produced over the years. Many of the designs are still being produced to this day. Some have had some modifications over the years but the main design has stayed the same.

Then there are silver rounds that are produced by very small local mints that were produced in very small mintages. Some of these are pretty valuable, yet some aren’t worth anymore than a newly minted silver round. Why that is, I don’t understand.

Then there are limited mintages of rounds that were produced by well known top notch mints. Such as the one I’m going to share with you today.

The round I am going to share today is from Engelhard. They are the gold standard of all silver and gold rounds and bars. Even the mass produced rounds and bars from them command a high premium.

While the depiction of Lady Liberty isn’t my favorite and could be better. This round is highly sought after.

Well this round does not fall into that category. This round only had a mintage of 5,000 pieces. You might be saying 5,000 is a lot for a silver round. Not really true. Considering that most Engelhard silver rounds and bars have mintages of 25,000 or more. Not only that but this design is what makes it valuable.

It’s a Statue of Liberty round. Per allengelhard.com they believe that at least 10-15% of these have been melted down over the 40 years they’ve been around. Making them even more sought after.

This particular one isn’t in the best shape. But I do have a couple in pristine condition as well. Just not at my disposal right now. Even in this condition they sell for over $40. I grabbed this one a while back.

Enough talk, here is the round….
