As Canada celebrates its 150th anniversary, embark on a cross-country collecting experience with a series that showcases Canada's iconic flora, fauna, landscapes and landmarks. This collaborative series between the Royal Canadian Mint and Canadian Geographic magazine features striking designs based on unforgettable photographs from the bi-monthly publication.

Gliding smoothly over calm waters, a paddling excursion offers stunning views of the changing landscapes that line Quebec's lakes and rivers. Hills, cliffs, forests and marshes—the stretches of untamed wilderness seem scarcely touched by time; one could easily imagine this was how the land appeared to early explorers and voyageurs, as they paddled into the annals of Canadian history. Today, these fjords, rivers, and lakes are all a treasured part of Quebec's natural heritage and provide a recreational playground for outdoor enthusiasts who seek solitude, a renewed connection with nature, and peace of mind.

Based on a photograph by Canadian nature photographer Daniel Dagenais, the reverse offers a first-person perspective of a kayak excursion on a river in Quebec. In the crisp morning air, the clouded sunrise and the fog rolling off the steep cliffs add to the sense of stillness in the air. The application of vibrant color over engraving recreates the life-like qualities of the original photograph, in which the stern of the bright blue kayak contrasts with the muted green and grey colors of the untamed landscape. The reverse also features the engraved word "CANADA" and the dates "1867-2017" to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Confederation.

How relaxing.....Kayaking on the River, that's the way to spend a Summer weekend @ronaldoavelino😀

I never went aboard on a kayak...

They are interesting, but the one I tried wasn't very stable. I prefer a canoe😀
