In 2014 and 2015 the Royal Canadian Mint issued the series "Exploring Canada", focusing on iconic images celebrating the adventurous and courageous spirit of Canada's pioneering explorers.

The sixth coin is the 2014 CAD $15 "The Pioneering Mapmakers".

It weights 23.17g with 99.99% silver purity and Matte Proof finish. Its mintage was 5,743 units and the issue price was CAD $54.95.

The reverse design by Canadian artist John Mantha honors the countless cartographers who contributed to the map of Canada, with a design featuring David Thompson (1770-1857), celebrated as North America’s “greatest geographer”.
