Giving without expectation...
I'm a lucky guy, not just because I get to wake up each morning in reasonable health and safety or I live in one of the best countries in the world, or even that I have a personal ethos of ownership, responsibility and discipline that has seen me pull through some pretty terrible times and thrive...But mainly because I get to share all of that with my wife; An incredibly special person who I have been honoured to have been with for the last 31 years. The image below shows us together (with our niece) in a photo taken recently when we were in Europe. We have had many happy times together, with more to come I hope.
This week after returning home from Europe we received some very bad news which will affect both of us and we have had a lot on our minds, Faith (my wife) especially. We will work through it of course, together, and with the same tenacity we have applied to every trial or tribulation we have experienced.
This morning prior to me going to work my wife stopped me and said she had something to give me. I thought she meant a kiss, which I eventually received, but it was in fact something quite different. Faith handed me a small paper bag and told me she had gotten this for me a little while ago and was going to give it to me at some stage when the moment was right. She also said that considering the situation we had recently been made aware of she felt now was that moment. Now, just to clarify, neither one of us are in peril however someone close to us is and our focus (especially Faith's) will be on that person for however long it's required and Faith felt that she wanted me to have this little gift now, before things got (potentially) very bleak and sorrowful.
I opened the box and realised what she had handed me. Now, it must be said that Faith is not the greatest fan of me stacking, she tolerates it, but it's not really her thing. (I don't get it as rolling in pirate treasure is awesome...) So, for her to hand me this gift was beyond comprehension and I was blown away!
The 1 ounce silver piece you see honours the Army, Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Airforce, the tri-service military organisation responsible for the defence of our nation by land, sea and air. It came in a nice velvet-lined box which sits within its own box decorated with images of the three services. It was minted in 2018 by the Royal Australian Mint. I was totally mind-blown that she would ever think to give me something like this considering her non-interest in stacking. Mind-blown!
I was, and still am, somewhat speechless and am looking forward to Faith coming in from work so I can thank her once again for the thought. Yes, the thought. The coin itself is amazing, but more importantly to me is the thought she has put into the gift, the effort she went to in obtaining it and the emotion she felt in giving it to me in this troubled time. For those that don't know I am a war-history addict and have the utmost of respect for those who have served in the military, or continue to do so, which is also why the coin is so valuable to me. I know she paid more than the simple ounce of silver is worth but the meaning of the coin goes far above the simple metal-value and I will cherish this piece more highly than the rest, just as I cherish my wife more highly than the rest...As it should be. So, you're reading the words of a very humbled and grateful man.
Oh...Just to let you know (if you read all the way down here) I am going to give away a 1 ounce silver coin in the not too distant future to a steemit user, posted to the nominated address of the person who wins it, anywhere in the world. If you're interested stay tuned to my blog and look for details. By the way, it's not a contest or challenge or anything dumb like that, it's a simple giveaway done by a (videoed) draw from the entrants names. I will post about it sometime soon when all the details are worked out so stay tuned. If you're not interested then that's ok too.
Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a great weekend!

I'm sorry for whatever your bad new is @galenkp, for you and Faith. I love what she gave you, and the thoughtfulness behind it, but I especially love that it was received in a small paper bag. For some reason, there's something very special/simple about it all.
haha There's the guy I know and love :)
Thank's Lynn. Yes, she is thoughtful and I'm fortunate to be the focus of those thoughts.
I hope you're well.
It's stunning and so are you guys. I'm sure you'll get through this tough time together.
You often say you're punching above your weight, but such an amazing woman would never have chosen you without reason, so don't underestimate yourself or her choices. ;)
:) thanks for saying so. Much appreciated.
Hello I started to follow you a few days ago for that publication of that beautiful coin, I have a few friends that I still here in Steemit have some very nice coins as well as what you have in the previous publication I like a lot I would like to get one of these some day
Your wife had a great gesture with you and it is good that you also want to have a gesture with one of us when giving us one of those coins
I will be attentive
Thank you @yesslife I value comments of substance on my posts. I post about many things and lately a little about silver which I collect. My blog is not one-dimensional and so could appeal to many different types of people and Ibtry to keep it as interesting as possible. I appreciate you following.
Speaking of silver I’ll be giving a one ounce coin away to a steemit user shortly, posted anywhere in the world. It’s not a competition or challenge as I find those things here on steemit to be shallow and worthless mostly and I have no interest in them however will be inviting people to get their community spirit engaged in a bid to gain entry to the simple draw for the coin.
Anyway, if you’re interested keep an eye on my posts.
Thanks for sharing such a personal experience ...
You’re welcome. Being real and genuine on steemit is important I think.
You are definitely a lucky man to have such a caring wife. (In case someone takes a negative connotation to this comment, I feel the same way about my wife as well.)
I've always enjoyed collecting items of value. From Trading Cards (Baseball & Basketball), to $2 USD Bills (ever-depreciating), "Rare Pennies" and other coins, to Pogs (I'm pretty sure they're worthless now, but hey, those "slammers" were fun to play with!), to Pokemon cards (I guess some of these might still actually have some value??), and now Crypto ...
I've never really collected precious metals, but I'm realizing that it's probably a good idea with the zombie apocalypse coming around. You never know when you might need some extra silver or gold to melt down and mold into bullets! =P
Seriously though, I've started collecting Silver Rounds ... and I really love feeling the weight of these solid coins in my hand!
Anyway, this post has dragged on long enough. Have a great weekend as well :)
Oh, and that coin from your wife looks awesome!
Hey mate good reply, you covered all bases! Yeah, I’ve got a few collections. I have a cool dragon collection actually, of once a year pieces. I may share it some day. I also collect other stuff too, including (in the last 2-3 years precious metal. It started through being somewhat of a prepper I suooose and now it’s a way to keep money out of the bank as well because, well banks suck ass. Sounds like you have a few collections also, no shame in it!
I am lucky to have my wife in my life and she is thoughtful, caring and loving. Well, not so much if she’s mad at me but I try to limit those times! I felt fortunate to have her to stand beside me and to get my six when required. She did well with the coin huh? I love it!
An incredibly thoughtful gesture. Would it be considered disrespectful to roll around on it though?
Nah mate, we’re all going to roll on the coin before I send it! Makes it more special. :)
Wow man that would make your day getting that gift from your wife.
It was actually pretty humbling, considering all that she has on her mind currently, she still had time to think of me. I am very lucky to have her and I try to show her that every day.
Thanks for your comment.
So so special. I love to hear about people who truly love and this is such a special post to read. I’m sorry to hear that you are going through a tough time and I’m glad you have each other ✨ What a gift!
You may get to meet her someday at a catch up if it’s not on a Thursday night. She’s lovely and yes, I know I’m punching well above my weight. :)
This is the mentality we need in order to change the world. I knew I had a reason to follow you and now this brings me happiness to read.
I will also try to give my votes to the ones participating in your challenge and to those wanting to change or participate in the bettering of the world, in any way. Have a wonderful day!
Thanks @alexdory, I have a cool idea to make the entry to the draw a very community-oriented thing. Will probably roll this out on Sunday. Just waiting on some details to come together.
Thanks for following and your comment tonight. Much appreciated.
The triangular nature of the coin will make it excellent for getting into those pressure points as you roll about in it. It'll be a physio ball, but made of silver.
That bad news is a bitch to deal with. We went through the same thing with a family member. If you need any support regarding the condition in particular, let me know, happy to lend an ear, or discuss things, as someone who's been there; before.
Thanks mate, much appreciated. We’re waiting for results from tests that occurred today which should come through next week. That will show the extent of the spread. Faith is pretty distraught as she is close with her mum since she lost her dad (also cancer) when she was 11. It will be a tough time I think. I worry more for her than anything to be honest.
Oh yeah, can’t wait to roll around on that triangle coin! Will get into places never before reached so imagine...
