The Sibling Rivalry

Our Beloved Siblings

ADMIT it or not, you've once felt inferior towards your sibling. You felt that he was more successful of you which makes your parents more proud of him. You felt neglected because their attentions were focused on him because he was the achieve, the successful and the better one. It's either you took it as a challenge to step up your game or you simply chose to remain low-key and let him enjoy the spotlight while you remained on the side. But the truth is, the favoritism hurts you. You just want your parents to be proud of you and give you as much attention as they givs to your siblings.

I knew someone who has dedicated her hardwork to her sibling. She wanted to beat her academically speaking. She was committed to outsmart her and be able to achieve the things her sibling has failed to achieve. Why? Because she wanted to prove to her family that she also deserved their love and attention. She just wanted to have their own share of the spotlight. That's whay fuelled her to ace every exam and activities. She joined almost all clubs and competitions to earn extra points and to make sure that she was a few steps ahead of her sister.

She's currently successful. She graduated with flying colors and was able to get a rewarding career. I don't exactly know what happened to her sister but all I know is that my friend was able to achieve more compared to her. They saw each other as a threat. Everything that they do was a competition... A battle that they have to win no matter what. Which is sad. Siblings aren't supposed to outwin each other. They came from the same womb, they're blood-related and were even raised by the same parents. They're supposed to stand for each other and not the other way around. Their hunger for love and attention lead them to fight against each other.

We have to remember that our siblings aren't our enemies. Yes, they can be pretty annoying on multiple times, but it doesn't change the fact that they are our brothers and sisters, legally and biologically speaking. If your sibling becomes successful on something, don't feel jealous. Consider his success as your success. Be happy for him. Celebrate his triumph like it was your own. Don't feel bad if you feel your parents love him more than you because you're less successful. That is not true. That's just the devil producing your mind with negative thoughts. The devil doesn't want you to be happy that's why he's making you feel jealous over your sibling. But the truth is, there's nothing to be jealous of. Our parents love us equally, we should remember that.

No parents would want their child to feel inferior or less loved. If they have made you feel less important, talk to them. There has to be an open communication between you and your parents. Let them know how you feel so they can assure that they love you the same way they love your sibling. Because I'm pretty sure they do. So, take a deep breath and relax. Don't think of everything as a contest wherein you should always be a champion. Sometimes, you can be an audience who cheers for the people you love as you witness them climbing to the top. Because I'm pretty sure, once your turn to clim comes, these people would lift you up and help you achieve your goals as well.

Do you have Siblings too?

Do you always argue with them?

Yes i also felt the same way but that was before. Now, Im happy to have siblings surpassing my achievements because my joy is seeing my family members happy and rejoicing than my selfish accomplishments. Truly love is always thicker. Anyway it doesn't make us less of a person if we are being surpassed by our sibling. Its all about a matter of heart and your love. Let not the things of this world be our standard of accomplishments and self-worth but be it about the people you made empowered. Shalom prof.
