Shtandart in Copenhagen

in #shtandart6 years ago (edited)

I'm still lagging behind some ~2 weeks with my vacation posts, but let's skip forward to today. Maybe I'll throw in a short post later covering those 2 missing weeks :)

As mentioned in another post, Weekend trip: Helgeroa, Langesund, Porsgrunn, our family has sort of a relationship with the Russian frigate replica Shtandart. Now it's in Copenhagen. My sister-in-law and her family has vacation now and really wanted to join Shtandart - but there was no space for them. My wife had this fantastic idea, they can just borrow our boat and follow them. On the flipside, I've spent really a lot of energy now cleaning away our mess and preparing the boat, as well as some time trying to teach them to handle the ship and trying to explain all the details ... I'm quite worried about everything that can go bad when lending it to a new inexperienced crew. At the other hand, the skipper of Shtandart said that he would provide a skilled sailor to help them.

The ship arrived this morning to Copenhagen, and we came in later - just in time for lunch! There is also a flipside to that as well, this quay is really meant for bigger ships, meaning that there are no service offers for smaller boat and quite expensive harbour fee.

Here we have just eaten lunch. The table over there is the small table, I was sitting by the bigger table. It got really dense, too many people eating at once! But the food was excellent. I tried to help a bit with the dishwash, but was ousted from the kitchen after cleaning only some handfuls of soup plates. Afterwards we went for a sauna in Christiania - but that's another post.

Seems there already exists some other posts on Shtandart on Steemit:

Fun fact: Shtandart has it's home port in St.Petersburg officially - but it hasn't been there for many years. Due to problems with the paper work (perhaps because the captain denied paying any bribes) the boat cannot enter Russian waters - hence it's sailing in exile.

This is the first post I am reading from you in at least week. I have been AWOL for the last couple of days I think I missed some of your progress.

First things first............. the pictures look amazing my man! Reminds me of the pirates of the Caribbean. I know the ships were completely different but I can't stop my mind from wondering in fantasy :-)

Frankly I have never followed a somebodies journey on sea before. Its really a unique experience to notice things that are completely logical but would never cross my mind in million years. For example:

This quay is really meant for bigger ships, meaning that there are no service offers for smaller boat and quite expensive harbour fee.

Its logical and comparable to a lot of other situations on land but at the end of the day, a guy who hasn't traveled on sea before really doesn't have a perspective to think that this kind of a problem might come across when you harbor your ship.

The height of the quay can also be inconvenient for smaller boats. Our boat is not that small though, but still ... I feel more comfortable with lower quays. Another thing is that there is no breakwater shelter, and the traffic does cause quite some waves, enough to make some discomfort for us, but too small waves to affect bigger ships.

Takk for mange fine bilete av flotte seglskuter @Tobixen

Those skies look ominous..

I'm quite worried about everything that can go bad when lending it to a new inexperienced crew.

This what was exactly going through my head when I read you were going to loan your boat out @tobixen. That seems very generous of you!

The Shtandart looks impressive. Great photographs. 😊
