Hi,

India is known for its diversity of culture and geography. Most of the northern and top eastern part of the country resides in the lap of Himalayas. Shrikhand Kailash peak is at a height of 5200 metres from the mean sea level.

Hinduism is the major religion and lord Shiva is the most worshipped deity in India. There are several places that are worshipped as the abode of the lord shiva. The most famous are the 5 Kailash peaks. 3 of these Kailah are near to my home in Himachal Pradesh. One can visit Kailash only in June-July months when it is summer season in India. Peaks are always snow cladded at all the times of year.

Trekking up to Kailash peaks is not a child's play. Shrikhand trek is about 35 kilometres long on one side, and don't ask about steepness. It is almost 90 degrees for about 60% of the trek.

How to reach

Reach Shimla either by Train, Airplane or bus. From Shimla take the bus to Rampur, and a further ride of about 25 kilometers preferably by a cab takes you the base of the trek at village Jaon.

Things to carry
Please carry dry fruits, warm cloths and a about 100 dollars for the expenditure on this 3-5 days trek. Paid camping and tenting facilities are available at two three spots along the trek but only in the month of July.

Sort:

Yeah, but not exactly for the kind of vacation that generally people think. This is a trek and only the fit and determined people can climb the mountain. Altitude sickness is a major problem. Eech year people die either due to slipping or due to this altitude sickness.
