The Giant Piano
A Short Story
by thejway

Alex Gloop was thinking about Jack Platt again. Jack was a gracious queen with brown legs and spiky fingers.

Alex walked over to the window and reflected on his backward surroundings. He had always loved pretty Cambridge with its vacant, vain volcanoes. It was a place that encouraged his tendency to feel healthy.

Then he saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the a gracious figure of Jack Platt.

Alex gulped. He glanced at his own reflection. He was a hopeful, controlling, brandy drinker with ruddy legs and short fingers. His friends saw him as a tense, tasteless teacher. Once, he had even helped a xenotropic blind person cross the road.

But not even a hopeful person who had once helped a xenotropic blind person cross the road, was prepared for what Jack had in store today.

The drizzle rained like drinking gerbils, making Alex sleepy. Alex grabbed a giant piano that had been strewn nearby; he massaged it with his fingers.

As Alex stepped outside and Jack came closer, he could see the exuberant glint in his eye.

"Look Alex," growled Jack, with an articulate glare that reminded Alex of gracious badgers. "It's not that I don't love you, but I want a resolution. You owe me 661 pounds."

Alex looked back, even more sleepy and still fingering the giant piano. "Jack, I've got a new job," he replied.

They looked at each other with worried feelings, like two healthy, hollow horses skipping at a very smart Christening, which had reggae music playing in the background and two daring uncles loving to the beat.

Alex studied Jack's brown legs and spiky fingers. Eventually, he took a deep breath. "I'm afraid I declared myself bankrupt," explained Alex. "You will never get your money."

"No!" objected Jack. "You lie!"

"I do not!" retorted Alex. "Now get your brown legs out of here before I hit you with this giant piano."

Jack looked relaxed, his wallet raw like a bright, bad banana.

Alex could actually hear Jack's wallet shatter into 661 pieces. Then the gracious queen hurried away into the distance.

Not even a glass of brandy would calm Alex's nerves tonight.
