If you are looking for suggestions ... LaCie has a 2 drive Network Access Storage dock that you plug in at home, then when you get home from a shoot, you can upload your files to it. (It's similar to your Seagate, but has two mirrored drives so that if there's a crash, you won't lose data)

The two drives are hot swappable and mirrored. So ... If one drive dies, you pull it out and replace it without losing data.

Everything stays at home with you. No Cloud involved. when you need more storage, you buy two bigger drives, replace one of the smaller drives, wait for the mirroring to complete, then replace the second one.

When you upgrade your MacBook, since all your data is on the NAS, no action is required. (NOTE: you can automatically backup your Mac to one of these too).

Another company that makes a similar product is Synology.

They are a little pricey, but you're basically building a cloud in your apartment.

If you weren't looking for suggestions and were just venting ... let's pretend this reply never happened. :-)

My brain is fried at the moment but I'll revisit your suggestion when I'm no longer pissed off about the whole iCloud ordeal :D
