The Idea

The possible creation of a Goatse shitcoin (literally, shitcoin is the best descriptor in this case) has been a thing for some years now. Not that plausible of a thing and not all that potential, but a thing nonetheless.

There's a few articles out there about the new Goatse Coin and it's potential existence, including this one from the AV Club.

This is not the first time that Goatse tangled with coinage. Back in 2014 the site was used to promote the ever-popular Dogecoin after initial talks of launching its own.

If this happens, it'll be the harmonic union of the best of internet past and of internet future.

Goatse

A series of photographs of a gay dude stretching out his asshole, one of which went viral and became a popular meme. While he was a much-beloved internet phenomena, he later on passed away from that very act he became famous for -- shoving things up his ass.

The original way to spread some Goatse love was to either trick someone to click on the site link or to post the image. Since then, people have hidden Goatse references in everything under the sun.

Anytime you see any image, item, ad, or object with two hands pulling apart anything circular, you have him to thank.
