She-Ra has a history in the He-Man, Masters of the Universe toyline/cartoon. I believe they slightly pre-dated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but came well after like GI Joe and Barbie. He-Man was huge, She-Ra would not really be a known name to anyone outside fans of He-Man though. This Netflix thing is giving her the opportunity to be bigger than she had been.
