Sharks are a group of elasmobranch fish characterized by a cartilaginous skeleton, five(5)- seven(7) gills on the sides of the head, and pectoral fins that are not fused to the head. Modern sharks are classified within the clade Selachimorpha and are the sister group to the Batoidea.Greenland sharks, the longest-lived vertebrate animals in the world, have been measured at 6.4 metres long, or just under 21 feet. Great hammerhead sharks can grow up to 6.1 metres, or 20 feet, though they are rarely seen anywhere near that size, and bull sharks can grow to a length of about 3.4 metres, or 11 feet. Examples of animals that kill and eat sharks are Orcas, Cape clawless otters, Nile crocodiles, Seals and sea lions, Large fish, Other sharks, Chacma baboons, Sperm whales and more. It's maximum speed is 19km/h.Sharks do not sleep like humans do, but instead have active and restful periods.Sharks are Carnivores which means they like fish and large sea mammals (animals with hair) such as dolphins and seals. They also eat turtles and seagulls, or even other sharks! And because their teeth and jaws are so strong, it's no problem for sharks to chew or rip through tough skin, bones, or hard shells.Though people think that Sharks eat humans, that is not true. Sharks may bite humans because they mistake us for seals and sea lions. Just one bite and swim away. However, larger shark species have been known to attack humans when they are confused or curious. If a shark sees a human splashing in the water, it may try to investigate, leading to an accidental attack.
