Pallets
What do you see?
A pile of trash than needs to go as soon as possible?
A bonfire with crackling flames leaping high and you and your friends telling story?
A myriad of garden projects that make your heart sing?
I see pallet gardens with flowers or - since we are in California - succulents spilling out between the slats.
Or a raised bed bordered by pallets.
A compost construction that can turn later into a raised bed full of wonderful growing material.
If they were clean - these particular ones came from a garden project, I see cabinets, benches, and all kinds of other furniture.
Oh, and the one with the solid wood on it - a perfect bridge over one of the many ditches I am digging in my garden.
What did you see? All of the pallets in the picture are heat treated - not with chemicals. That is one thing to look out for before using a one in your garden project.
You can tell by the stamp somewhere on the pallet, usually on a side board.
Personally, I won’t use a pallet in a garden project unless I have seen the stamp - better safe than sorry.
Have you used pallets in any of your projects? * Pro-tip: If you want the boards for building, use a sawzall with a metal blade to cut them off.
