Swiss Super League to begin again in mid-June

The Swiss Super League is planning to restart from 19 June with matches to be held in empty stadiums.

The twenty Swiss Clubs from both first-division Super League and second-division Super League gathered in Bern, the Swiss Capital, for an unexpected meeting on Friday. Most of the clubs voted to restart the league: 17 were in favor of the revival of the season, two didn’t vote, and one was against the idea.

The Swiss League would begin again on 20 June inside empty stadiums. The first game of the league is scheduled to held on 19 June, Friday.

However, the team would allow us to play friendlies on 6 June. From Germany, teams can make five changes during a live game, in contrast to three previously.

The SFL has been on halt since 23 Feb, when coronavirus outbreak started.

Switzerland is lifting its lockdown restrictions eventually, and it has been expected that the extraordinary situation would be completely removed on 19 June. They are allowing the gathering of a maximum of 300 people both in private and public events as of 6 June. However, since 30 May, people in the groups of 30 can gather in one place.

In the exact same conference, FC Lausanne Sport proposed an expansion in the league up to the dozen teams, which they rejected by the way with 14 against five votes. One didn’t consider voting in anyone’s favor.

In case if expansion had approved, the SFL would have the same format of the 12-team Scottish Premiership, including a split after 33 straight games, after which every club would play three matches against each other.

In short, Switzerland is set to restart the Swiss Super League in the mid of next month, and they are positive about the games.
