My mind is blown!

It was brought to my attention today, by a coworker, that Utah has actually made it illegal to watch, make, or be in porn. I went straight to Google to look this up, to see if this was really true. I found this abc article
While reading this, I was dumbfounded and humiliated just by living in Utah! I thought we had personal freedoms? My god, how embarrassing for us Utahans..
I'm not enraged because I watch porn, or even enjoy it, but because they have made something so personal public.

“I want to assure the good citizens of Utah that the brave men and women of law enforcement will be out in full force, tracking down porn offenders, and bringing them to justice,”

Really dude... What in the fuck has made people so dangerous from watching porn that they have to use full force?!

I don't agree with porn. I think it makes women look like objects. Also, it destroys relationships and the special connection between two people and their love for one another. Only because I believe this, doesn't mean it is a decision I need to make for others. Individuals who watch porn aren't criminals or a threat to anyone's lives. If it does anything, it is all mental, and emotional damage.

”Weiler, who hopes similar legislation will soon be passed in other states, believes that pornography is addictive in nature and aiding in the breakdown of marriage and healthy relationships.”

This guy thinks the same, well, what else causes breakdown of marriage and unhealthy relationships? Not just porn, I'll tell you that much! Let's make it all illegal then!

“First time offenders will see fines of $100-$500, depending on the quantity of pornography or the amount of digital graphic content seized on the criminal’s computer. Repeat offenders can expect 30 days in jail or worse, depending on what type of pornography is found in the individual’s possession. Missionary style pornography will result in a fine or up to 30 days in jail, while pornography that involves any kind of homogayness, that being sodomy or Devil worshiping, will result in long-term prison sentences. Law enforcement will also be working closely with local ISPs and the NSA to monitor those who search out porn on the internet. We will win the war on porn and masturbation.”

Some stuff aired on television and put in movies are just as bad as some missionary position pornos. 100-500 dollars is a bit much.

This whole thing gives me such mixed feelings. I am not supporting that porn is right, to be completely honest, I don't have much experience with it. I have heard that a lot of the sexual predators start out with porn and have to feed their high/addiction with something much stronger. I am not okay with what it leads to. Who is to say that everyone who watches porn turns into sexual predators, though. It's like not decriminalizing pot just because it is a “gateway” drug. In all reality, it is a choice that we make on our own.
What I have a problem with the most though is this whole “self-rape” talk...I think masturbation is completely natural and isn't going to cause harm to anyone.

Everyone has hormones and sexual desire.

Utah, and it's dominance in religion has made sex such an animalistic act, when in all reality it is the most natural thing. No wonder pornography is such a huge problem in Utah to start out with! It is the most secretive way to be sexual. Utah has made sex such a "sinful" thing that everyone is trying to be secret about being normal.

Sort:

I'm against porn for a number of reasons. But people should be free to make their own choices. Consenting adults should be able to film themselves having sex, share those videos and possibly profit from them. In the same way individuals should be able to view these videos. There's no sense in banning anything that doesn't infringe upon the rights of others.

You said it better than i could! I Completely agree

I'm glad I don't live there. This will solve what problem exactly? I bet it will create at least 3 new problems.

a whole lot more people in jails and prisons is how i see it

Yet you didn't use any sexual content within your post in fear of getting downvotes. Or you just don't have the balls to post tits.

Sorry to disappoint.

If you don't have the balls, then I'm going to have them for you.
Here's a work of art by @brendazambrano

ruining things for everyone like always haha

When I was a kid in the 80s, PG movies had titties and swear words. Anyone else old here remember that?

You were watching the wrong channels. NR on cinemax was the place to be. Back then shows didn't even have to have a rating.

Now days everyone is so damn sensitive!

More like these days everyone wants someone else to parent their kids for them.

well, that too

Moving from the war on drugs to the war on porn. Got to keep that lost revenue coming in somehow.

such a worthless cause...

Does filming sex with your wife count? lol

I guess you could see it as illegal so then it makes it more fun to do. lol Just don't film it in a church and make sure it doesn't get leaked. That's my professional advice :)

In Cuba porn is very illegal!!! Better to kill a man than to get caught with a porn magazine and Im not joking

Wow, that is ridiculous! Power struggles have become so inhumane.

Making something illegal often makes it worse. This will create a dangerous black market in Utah.

The purpose of law like is likely exactly to keep it personal and intimate. The problem is that it drives it underground, too. The law, should, in my opinion, be there to monitor and regulate - not to control. A law like this is in effect a tax on porn and it disincentivises people from engaging with it - which might actually result in a happier more productive society. The silver lining is that they have the tools to measure this precisely and will be able to measure the effect of such legislation in terms of productivity and happiness. Personally, I think it's good that countries have borders. Utah might attract people who agree with this. If you don't like it, and you're not willing to fight for your right to be heard, I suppose you're free to move.
