I don't know about the pastors of other churches but I can speak for reverend fathers since I'm a Catholic myself. In the Catholic church, we have seven sacraments. The sacraments of

  • baptism
  • holy Eucharist
  • confirmation
  • penance
  • anointing of the sick
  • holy order
  • holy matrimony

Every Catholic is allowed to receive the first five sacraments. But of the last two, a choice is needed. We can either marry and start a family or choose to dedicate ourselves to the God and his church. This is so because the church recognizes that neither of those two duties is an easy task. Neither of them is a simple affair. They both require life long dedication and as such are kept separate. In order not to over burden any one person with too much responsibility, the church asks us to pick on and dedicate ourselves entirely to it.

It is not like the married man and woman are not part of the family. Neither is it like they are not allowed to work in the church and serve here or there. But they are not allowed to be the head of a church as they are already the heads of their family.

As for pastors, I'm not sure that the same rules apply. In Nigeria, my country, many pastors are married and lead their churches with their spouses. I don't know about other countries but that's how it is in mine
