Also, I believe that part of Japan's problem has to do with their reaction to the loss of WWII and trying to keep boys from being aggressive men. On top of that, their economy has stagnated for 20 years, so it is harder and harder for young people to make a good living, which discourages having families.
I agree for sure there is multiple factors involved in Japan's population decline.
The programming over there is strong and serves as a good example for the path we are heading in, in places such as Europe and the west.
