The Seven Day Beer Challenge 6# - Mamos Beer

in #sevendaybeerchallenge6 years ago (edited)

Just returned from work and I will head back soon, so this post might be a bit hasty. But I am definitely not missing a day from my very own challenge, even if it means making a small sacrifice in the post's quality  :D

So, today's beer is Mamos, a Greek pielsner with quite the history! As you can see on the official website, it first appeared in the Greek market on 1897 and was named after "Λορέντζος Μάμος"  who was the first to establish a brewery in Patras. Apparently, back in the day Mamos was quite a popular beer and won many awards until 1976, when the production stopped and the beer became just another page in the books of history. Here are some photos from back then:

In 2017, the production of the beer Mamos restarted, following an agreement between the Athenian Brewery with the Mammos family. Today, the Mamos beer is produced at the Athenian Brewery in Patras, which is the largest factory of the company and consists of five production lines and employs around 250 employees. According to the officials of the Athenian Brewery, their goal is to revive the original recipe.

Unfortunately, I am a kid of the late 80s so I can't say whether the revival of Mamos stays true to its roots or not. But what I can do is give it a try and share my thoughts! Will I be pleasantly surprised?

Like always, let's first start with some photos of the beer!

Cheers!

Review

Mandatory Note: I won't pretend I am a connoisseur or something. Chances are I would fail a blind test between the beers I typically drink.

First, I have to say that I loved the retro look of the bottle! And when I say I loved it, I mean I LOVED IT!

My guess is that it looks exactly the way the original beer looked in the 1970s or something and I am sure it definitely affected, in a good way, my overall experience with the product.

Did I like it? You bet! I really can't describe in words the way it tasted. It had a very nice, uniquely weird bitter/sweet kind of taste that just felt so good and refreshing! As I said, maybe it tasted that way because the nice retro style put me in a biased mindset right from the start. Dunno, really... All I know is that this beer is gonna be one of my regulars from now on!

Ok, now to the nominations...Hmm..Ok, @hrissm is the first to pop in my mind! Judging from your recent comments I think you love beer so you will probably enjoy this challenge! Cheers!

These are the rules to be taken into account:

  • You have to try a new beer every day, for 7 days
  • The beer must be something you have never tasted before
  • You must put a photo of the beer and write a few words about it
  • Nominate someone every day
  • If you are a social outcast with no friends to invite you just join the fun. You have every excuse to drink!
  • Use the tag "#sevendaybeerchallenge" as one of your five tags.

Sixth day! Thirty different variations of beer! Here is real beer-mania! Congratulations, my friend!

Try a Vienna lager with it!

I’m honored! I’m not as big a drinker as I used to be, but I do enjoy a good libation when the time is right! I’ve been more into wine lately, mostly because I started making it this past year.

I can’t promise when I’ll start the beer challenge but I can definitely promise that at some point I will!

Eviva file, stin ugeia sou!

Awesome, I can't wait :)

Nice cap collection. Is that yours ? :)

No ... it's in a bar in Kastela

Well done, brother.
Did you try to distinguish the tastes letting the beer getting room temperature? I've heard that this alters it. I guess when the beer is enjoyed ice-cold it tastes all the same.

The retro-look from this old adds: they are so much nicer than the styles from nowadays.

Anyway: Στην υγειά μας!

P. S. The chair in the left upper corner: I like. Would also fit into a palace.
But the floor and the carpet remind me of my good old Russia. Cozy!

From a different angle :)
