P.s. I watched the video. One point that struck me (there were many excellent insights), was what he said about eliminating ego in assessing the impact of a project, or in assessing an employees feedback on said project. Also, about the importance of assessing things based on long term value/growth that an idea or functionality brings to something, which ties into eliminating ego in the equation. It all seemed to come together as an interesting take on how to build a framework for a long term project. While turning down the noise on the bs that will always be generated in the process of 50 - 100 people all trying to help figure out how to make that long term successful application/product.
It struck me that if everyone was able to apply that filter on ego in how they pitch, or push, their contributions to a project, then you'd have a very effective team of people. Ha ha, but that's pretty far fetched an outcome. It's an essential skill for a project manager though, and not all of them have it. The project manager in my last job didn't always do this effectively, nor did I to be fair. The result - we wasted a certain amount of time in unnecessary processes.
