Seriously? - I know that!
In the twenty odd years I've worked in IT there has been numerous conversations with so-called 'Web Developers' over the years. It never ceases to amaze me the load of old twaddle they tell their customers: "Ooh, you'll have to move to us because of the special coding we use." My all time favourite was when one developer told our customer "We use php in our code, it's pretty specialised, not many hosting companies can run it." What the ....? The other mind-blowing thing about most of them is they have absolutely no idea how, for example, Domain Names work!
Developer: "Hi, I Believe you created this website?"
Me: "No."
Developer: "Oh?" OK. We are creating a new website for YourCompany Ltd and we need the username and password for the site." [One of our customers]
Me: "Why? If you're creating a new site, unless you intend to rip the old site off you don't need to get into it, just blow it away."
Developer: "I know that!"
Me: "Pardon? I don't understand then?"
Developer: "We want to point to the new website."
Me: "Ah, you're talking about something different then, you mean the Domain name."
Developer: "I know that!"
Me: "Pardon? You asked me about the website. You'll need to find out where the Domain is hosted then you'll need the username and password for the control panel that manages the Domain Name."
Developer: "I know that!"
Me: "What? If you know all this why are you ringing us?"
Developer: "Because I was told you did the Website."
Me: "Aye? Even if we did create the website what has that got to do with the Domain Name?"
Developer: "I'll have to go back to the original owners of the site."
Sounds like a plan Mr I know that!
