Touws River: Burned that idea! Selfie Challenge Week #8

Touws River - Property search...
A small town bordering the Kalahari desert, out in the middle of Nowhere.
The family and I went on a bit of a road trip to go and check out some properties that seemed as though it might be a very low cost, budget property investment. With property prices starting from less than half the price of a small, entry level car we just had to go check it out.
Turns out if it seems to good to be true it usually is however it was worthwhile nonetheless, doing a bit of a Road Trip vibe with the kids :)
Heading down the main road it was immediately clear that this little town won't work. Boarded up shops, broken windows, graffiti and people flopping around all over the place was what we were greeted with.
Unfortunately the little ex railway town has been overrun by mostly drunk farm/ex farm workers. I had a chat to some of the locals however wasn't quite convinced. I mean, what's the point of going to your little holiday getaway and having to deal with a bunch of drunk farts (I don't mind if it's me and my friends that are the drunk farts) and worrying that upon your next visit that everything will still be intact. Nah... not for me thank you very much.
It's a bit of a shame, since it has some nice history, beautiful mountainous surrounds, game farms and rivers in the vicinity.
We drove past the Old Steam Locomotive Yard however didn't even want to get out to have a look since the area was also overrun. With the SAR 23 Class locomotive still parked there it's a shame and further enforced our decision to rather call it a day and move on.
So, in the end we went to a fuel station along the N1 (South African national highway) at Touwsriver, had a decent lunch, bought a few items from the curio and set the rest on fire before making a hasty retreat on the old tractor.
Thanks for stopping by :):)
Cheers!!

Had a good chuckle at this @therneau. Needed that today. Defintely won't recommend Touwsrivier to anyone
Lol, indeed. We gave it a bash though :D
Such a funny post @therneau...but so sad too. I always look at places like that and try to imagine what it looked like in it's glory days! Being in such a scenic location it just needs someone with loads of money to buy up the whole town and revive it hey :)
Yeah, it is sad indeed. Well, hopefully at some point it will be revived :):)
I agree with you, my wifes grandfarther is from there and we went to visit his grave site. We were also met by two drunks as well as a guy that was pestering us for money. I think you did the right thing, just pass by!
Yeah, it's sad though. Seeing a place degrade to such an extent. Luckily we don't have any physical ties to the area. As for you and your wife, sorry to hear that a visit like that was spoiled in such a way.
Congratulations
