Thanks for highlighting this. Here is an example from the same category, same day.
My post first is not on the Trending page but it has collected 109 votes and $10.65.
This one has collected 91 votes and $0.67 is on the trending page

this doesn't make sense? how can a .67 post make it to trend but not the higher one? so trending posts are going by upvotes now? is that some new change that just hpnd?

It has always been like this. The trending page is based on adding together the votes on the post and the votes on the comments to that post.
This opens scope for less visible self voting. Do not self vote your post but self vote comments especially once you have got a comment from somebody else.
