Fuck your Self-Help posts
There, I said it. The internet in inundated by self help blogs, lists, tweets, and sadly, even grams.
Do they actually help? Huffington Post recently published an article on why they probably don't.
How many times have you seen something like this?
My guess is (if you a person of the internet like I know you are) that you've seen quite a bit of this trash floating around.
Why it's trash
- People don't change their lives in a day
- Telling people to be vegan, run a 4k, develop hobbies, and travel abroad isn't realistic for all people
- Parents exist, and almost always the tips are self-serving and potentially damaging to a child
- We're allowed to be human, emotions are okay, and happiness isn't something we should strive for, but rather enjoy while we have it. The Oatmeal has explained this better than anyone I imagine could.
So all in all, do you boo. Emotions are perfectly normal and most internet lists are designed to generate views, not to actually help people.
All good points. The trouble is people believe these lists!
