Heirloom Tomatoes and Peppers Update - They Have Sprouted!

A few weeks ago I posted 2 videos, Planting Peppers and Planting Tomatoes. The heirloom tomatoes sprouted in about 7 days, the peppers, which traditionally are slower to germinate, took a good 2 weeks. The overall results are good. As soon as the plants develop a second set of leaves, then I will transplant individual plants into peat pots. This process will be the subject of a future video in a week or so. Transplanting is a necessary step in the hardening process which better prepares the plants for actual garden conditions.

If you look closely in the two photos, you can see some white outside. Yes, that is some snow we received today. I've been trying to get plants out in the greenhouse on the porch, however, today was not a good day. For the most part, the weather has cooperated for the greenhouse, I just have to be diligent to watch nighttime temps as they still frequently dip below freezing at night.

As you can see, the germination of the heirloom tomatoes was excellent. The peppers not so much, however, there are still some seeds sprouting so the end result will be good.

In my experience, peppers tend to be a little more finicky when it comes to sprouting and even growing at times. Each season, I normally get a great harvest of tomatoes, although late blight has become a constant each year. Peppers, on the other hand, can vary more year to year. I'm not quite sure why, whether it's due to soil and/or weather conditions.
