Human Behavior: and Understanding Yours (How you are manipulated)

in #security6 years ago (edited)

What I want to cover today is Human behavior; you behavior and how to become stronger. Reaction is something that can tell a lot about a person. If something bad happens to you, how do you react? Do you get angry, cry, run away, or do you take control and deal with it? Or how about if an advertiser or sales person is tempting you to buy their product? Do you fall right into their hands? Do you take the time to listen? Or do you immediately notice all the buttons that are being pushed while you are receiving the sales pitch? The real questions here are, how week are you and how can you become less weak?
As humans, we are creatures of habit and curiosity. We seek approval and we desire attention. In every one of us, there are things that make us tick. Things that make us want. Things that we will convince ourselves in believing we need them. Advertisers and sales people know this about us and they use this knowledge against us. This is an inherent weakness in us and it is exploited every day. If you use the internet or watch T.V., you are exposed to it. I’m not saying stop using these things, but that’s not a bad idea. What I want you to learn here is how to recognize when you are being manipulated by advertisers and sales people. This information will cross over into other areas as well, such as: attorneys, police questioning, bill collectors, con artists, news media, and many other areas. I want you to become a stronger person so you can rise above this manipulation.
In order to become stronger in this area, you will need to learn and understand the basics of how sales people sell to you and how advertisers advertise to you. I’m not going to teach all that here, that’s where self education comes into play. As you learn this subject, you will start to see key points that every advertisement uses such as colors, sounds, and shapes. These three mediums will trigger different thoughts and behaviors in our minds. Let me give you a basic example, and I mean basic. If you want people to feel relaxed and you want them to trust you, you will use blue or green as your base colors. It’s subtle and affective. Now let’s step it up a little. You heard the saying sex sells right? Well is it sex or shape that sells? Men are naturally attracted to curves, not the woman. There are plenty of women who are not very attractive to most men. Most men are attracted to the Shape of a woman and one other thing, but that’s a different article entirely. I hope my audience is intelligent enough that I don’t have to point out every demographic in existence to this matter. I hope you get the point that I’m making. Shape is what attracts, not the sex. The term sex sells is truer for prostitution and pornography. Shapes are used to sell blue jeans.
You can see in my example above, that not only does Shape sell, but we were also convinced that sex was the medium that did the selling. Why did we believe that sex sells rather than shape? We believed this because we were told that it does over and over again and we agreed to it right away when we heard it. So now it is in our minds as truth. And later we will repeat it because we believe and because it sounds good (I’ll come back to this in a minute). And every time you repeat it, you reaffirm it in your mind as truth. Why do we repeat it? I know I have repeated it, I know most of you have. We repeat it because it’s fun to say, it’s enjoyable. Sex Sells. We like to say it because the first two letters are the same…I know I know, it sounds crazy, but not as crazy as knowing that it works.
Using the same initial letters/sounds in a name or phrase is easy for our brains to remember because it’s easily recalled. Yes our brains are lazy. Stan Lee the comic book author once said in an interview that he used this technique all the time so kids would remember the characters’ names: Peter Parker, Matt Murdock, Dr. Doom, Reed Richards, and so on. And not only are these names easy to remember, they are enjoyable to say; Peter Parker! Think about Google. Why do we like to say that goofy word? It requires little effort, unlike what we are doing here. I want you to use your mind. Exercise it. Put effort into thinking.
Our brain works like a muscle. The more we use it, the stronger it is. Most of us know that, but did you know you can work out different parts of your brain? You can exercise reading, awareness, reaction, language, and most importantly, restraint or resistance. Every time you refrain from eating sugar, you become better at resisting sugar. Eventually, it will become easy to resist sugar and other things as well. You can train your mind to be better and stronger. Here is another example: In my martial arts training, I was told to imagine (realistically) all my fighting moves on a regular basis. This helped develop a quicker reflex. And as a side note, I did this wile outside in the winter time and I actually wormed up a little.
Ok let’s wrap this up. We learned that advertisers and sales people use particular methods to trigger your thoughts and emotions. We discussed some of these methods. We discussed training our minds. I mentioned you becoming a stronger person and you can be. It is very important for us to learn about our human behavior. Otherwise we are subjected to control. Once you start learning about your natural behavior, you will be able to see how it is being used against you. Study this subject on your own and you will be able to turn down any salesman, save money at the store, defeat creditors, avoid entering into regrettable contracts, and have the ability to name ten super hero off the top of your head.
In closing, I want to thank you for reading this article. There is more to come. I plan on teaching something in every article and I will reference this article and others as we move forward. Peace everybody. Love your neighbor, and don’t be quick to judgment. –Paul Fitzpatrick
