Hi fabulous friends! It's yours truly @desmonddesk here. I am bothered to raise a few issues of concern surrounding our security on the web, on social media and most importantly, here on steemit.

Recently, I keep receiving notifications of strange attempts to access my email. And whether the attempts are from hackers and or the email is falsely sent just to gain access to my mail as it carries links to be clicked to stop attempts.

NOTE: IF YOU RECEIVE SUCH MAIL, DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK THAT IS INCLUDED IN THE MAIL. YOU MAY BE ENABLING THE ACCESS YOU ARE TRYING TO PRIVATE.

When I receive such mails, I simply delete the mail, and get to my google mail or yahoo mail setting direct and change the password. The issue of security is increasingly important for awarenesses to be made by all for innocent and new web users to take caution in order to avoid the bitter experiences of hacked accounts.

Often in our steemit WhatsApp community we receive reports of hacked accounts and it is becoming more rampant. For this week alone, we've received two of such alarm and we are always making effort to help in the discovery.

Thanks to some excellent helpers we have in the group. Hence, There is need to raise awareness of this dark activities and for users to be cautious as they carry out their daily activities on the web and internet.

For some corporate organizations, important information about the organization is being stored in their mail box and if care isn't taken into consideration and proactive measures taken, lost of vital files or funds will be the case.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM BEING HACKED ON STEEMIT

On a very basic note, since most of the complaints I have heard is about clicking of links. To prevent your account from being hacked, simply avoid clicking some random links shared by those who comment on your posts directing you to "get profitable upvotes" and all other tells.

Double check memos sent along with fund transfers. This is on a basic note. And secondly, do not share your device with strangers.

When there is network delay or stiffening, do not try to force the network or so to say. Log out and try again later. Consistently trying to login when there is a poor network could redirect to a phishing site. I think this could be helpful. Prevention is better thank cure.
