March 26, 2020--Daily Practice blog in the time of the virus

A recording from yesterday--a practice run through of the first movement of Mendelssohn's Sonata in B-flat major. Not quite ready. So, postlude for this week will be changed. Ah, well.

It was a wonderful day of practicing. I got up at 7 am and made breakfast while checking emails and catching up on the news. I then practiced piano for an hour before going to the chiropractor for an adjustment. Went to my office to print off classwork for tomorrow--Symphonie Fantastique. Came home for self-isolation practices for another hour of piano practice before going to the church to practice organ for a little over an hour. Taught a piano lesson and came home to work on online class lectures for three hours. We had leftovers for dinner and will watch some tv before going to bed.

On the piano, I worked on Liszt Transcendental etude No. 1 and No. 6. Also spent some time with the Brahms' Ballades Op. 10 no. 1 and 2. These are coming back rather quickly. Finally, worked on the accompaniment for the anthem this Sunday.

On the organ, I practiced the D minor little prelude and fugue in anticipation of using it for postlude this week. Also, worked on BWV 624. It is almost up to speed, but there are a couple of places where the fingers aren't obeying me. Damn you fingers. Finally, worked on the recap of Vierne's Finale from the first symphony. This is intended for Sunday, so I need to start speeding it up....
