Flute Piece - William Hine | Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 31

Hello Steemians. This is my entry for the Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 31. I'm playing "Flute Piece" by William Hine.

I was so attracted to the sound of the 4' Flutes on this organ, as it was very recently tuned, that I decided to play another piece featuring this ensemble! The flute on the Grand orgue is known as the Flûte Harmonique and the Récit flute is called the Flûte à Fuseau.

William Hine (1687–1730) was an English organist and composer. His compositions truly reflect the "Old English Organ" style and this particular work is featured in the ever popular Oxford University Press publications–Old English Organ Music for Manuals. The tempo is labelled Brisk and the editorial suggests Flute 8' (4') as the registration. However, I have decided to play this with the 4' Flutes only as they speak faster than an 8' Flute. Hine studied music under Jeremiah Clarke who was well known in the English organ world. You might recognise the name, Clarke, from his popular wedding work "Trumpet Tune in D".

The Flute Piece is the second movement in Hine's Voluntary in F. This six movement work clearly resembles the old English style—each piece being titled by the registration required:

1. Diapason Movement
2. Flute Movement
3. Diapason & Flute Movement
4. Cornet & Sesquialter Movement
5. Diapason & Flute Movement
6. Fugue

I haven't learnt any of the other movements (yet). Perhaps I might add them to my musical pipeline and share them with the Steem community at a later date :)
